| My friend Toon does'nt know a lot about computers. He is a sea captain and now, with his domain of 60 hectares, he is also a planter. The other day I paid him a visit to solve a number of problems with his computer. After that we took a long stroll on his land where I came across a fallen boxwood. When Toon told me that the boxwood was at least 100 years old I was very interested. The trunk was hardly 10 cm thick and the height of the two branches was around 2 meters. Happily he gave it to me. What could I do with it? In my book about hardwood I read that boxwood grows very very slowly and is very very strong and heavy - so heavy that certain varieties sink in water. It is used for making wooden forks, and for instance the mechanics of old fashioned windmills. I decided to cut it into thin slices of wood to make this small table. For the sides I used cypress wood. I like the contrast between the elegant boxwood and the cypress as a working class hero. I added a paperweightof boxwood to demonstrate the qualities of the wood: heavy, hard and fine.
